Commission District 2

Randy Vest
Randy Vest, a life-long resident of Morgan County, has a special place in his heart for the communities and people of his home county. He takes pride in stating that his home is in Alabama, specifically, Morgan County. He is humbled by its citizens and their encouragement of him to seek this office. Randy‘s 30 years of self-employment experience, 25 of which were as owner of Randy’s Body Shop, taught him, firsthand, the concerns that small business owners face. His work as an Installation Specialist with Moss Audio Systems helped him learn more about design, interfacing and scheduling. In 2002, he was hired as the Maintenance Supervisor for Dura Coat Products, Inc., in Huntsville, Alabama. His initial job at this Korean owned, Industrial Coatings Manufacture with international ties, was to assist in the supervision of completing the construction of the facility and installing all equipment. His job now entails, not only maintaining the facility, but also requires negotiating contracts, purchasing and an understanding of licensing and permits. Randy believes that these experiences combined with his “heart of service” make him an ideal candidate for county commissioner. Evidence of his “heart of service” includes: providing Gospel Music, since the age of 12, to churches, fairs, prisons, nursing homes and concert halls; nine years in service to The Gideons International, serving as Vice-President, Assignment Secretary and Treasurer; three years of service on St. Luke United Methodist Church’s Board of Trustees, one as Chair; seven years as Co-Worship Leader for St. Luke; and, six years as a Certified Lay Speaker for the Northwest District of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. Randy is ready to put his experience to work and to commit himself to service for the people of Morgan County, his home. He promises to provide ‘Hands On, Open, Honest Leadership.’

Sheriff

Ana Franklin
Ana Franklin is a lifelong resident of Alabama. She was born and raised in Decatur, graduating from Austin High School, and continuing her education at Jacksonville State University. Ana’s law enforcement career began as a reserve officer in Limestone County under Sheriff Mike Blakely. Some of the various positions held by Ana included working with K-9 narcotics, explosives and search and rescue dogs. After graduating from Jefferson County Law Enforcement Academy, she returned to Morgan County and worked with the late Sheriff John McBride. With her experience as a K-9 handler, Ana worked for the Morgan County Drug Task Force in cooperation with state, local and federal agencies as an undercover drug agent, investigating and infiltrating narcotics trafficking organizations. Ana has also worked as a drug-endangered child officer, as a certified expert witness for the Morgan County Circuit Court for clandestine methamphetamine lab manufacturing and also for child sexual molestation, and has assisted with over 300 meth lab investigations. Ana holds national certifications in child forensics interview, K-9 cadaver work, along with interview and interrogation. She also led the Sex Offender Unit, investigating child abuse and molestation cases and violations by convicted sexual offenders. Some of Ana’s honors received during her law enforcement career include being named Morgan County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 2007, receiving the Award of Merit from the City of Falkville for robbery investigation in 2008, and being presented the Agent Appreciation Award for work in a federal drug trafficking case by the Drug Enforcement Agency. Ana also has certification in wilderness search and rescue, domestic violence and abuse for families in crisis, and Alabama Department of Justice methamphetamine investigation. She is a past member of Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc. (HEMSI) Cave Rescue and the High Angle Rescue Team. Ana is very involved in the community and is active in the North American Search and Rescue Association, Decatur Charity League, First United Methodist Hartselle, Morgan County Republican Women’s Club, National Rifle Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Association Rescue Squads and is a founding member of the North Alabama Search Dog Association. On April 12th, the F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police) chose Ana as the Sheriff’s candidate they will endorse for this election. This is a group of her peers – members of the community who work in law enforcement. They know her. They have worked with her. They trust her. They respect her. And now, by an overwhelming majority, they have chosen her to represent them. Ana Franklin’s qualifications – combined with determination, dedication and a passion to always do the right thing – make her a uniquely qualified candidate for Sheriff of Morgan County.  This determination further influenced her goals for the Sheriff’s office, which include reinstating the satellite Sheriff’s offices, certifying additional officers in Meth Lab Investigation/Narcotics, implementing a drug treatment/training in the Morgan County jail, reinstating the Sexual Offender specific unit, implementing School Resource Officers in county schools, and financial accountability to the citizens sworn to serve.
